DATASTICK - Info

Datastick Systems, Inc., develops, manufactures, and sells cost-effective handheld test and measurement hardware and software solutions for a broad range of industrial, commercial, scientific, governmental, environmental, and educational markets. Datastick® instrumentation products include data acquisition and vibration collection / analysis systems.

Datasticprovides extremek  portability at affordable prices. This is because Datastick enables its customers to capitalize on advances and cost savings in some of today’s most rapidly expanding technologies: off-the-shelf handheld computers, open systems software, sensors, and mobile and wireless technologies.

Datastick products supplement – and in many cases replace – costly top-of-the-line instruments for mobile data collection and analysis tasks. ROI in most cases is very fast: averting one bearing failure can pay for a Datastick vibration analyzer 40 to 50 times over. There are numerous other benefits. Datastick offers the most lightweight instrument on the market. Speed of training is in hours, not days. Finally, ease of use is not surpassed by any competing product.

Datastick's data collection and analysis instruments utilize commercially available, off-the-shelf handheld computers. A typical Datastick system consists of a hardware attachment for the handheld computer plus software for the handheld and for the PC. Commercially available sensors are then attached to the Datastick hardware, turning the unit into a complete handheld test and measurement instrument. In most cases, the Datastick hardware module powers the sensor and can power the handheld when needed. Accessories such as external batteries and rugged cases extend the functionality of the product line. Kits make a complete package for the mobile technician or engineer.

Datastick software on the handheld provides for the capture, sharing, display, and analysis of data gathered from the attached sensors. Transfer of measurement data to the PC is fast and easy. Once on the PC, Datastick software for the PC enables further analysis. Because the PC software is open — based on Microsoft Excel — sharing and emailing of measurement files within and outside the enterprise is fast and easy.

Incorporated in 1999, Datastick shipped its first product in late 1999. Datastick holds numerous "firsts" for PDA-based test and measurement utilizing the Palm OS, including: first general-purpose test and measurement device, first to offer multiple channels, first to offer multirange inputs, first to offer wireless Bluetooth capability, and many more. Patents are pending for a number of Datastick technologies.

Datastick is interested in applications of its technology to specific markets and welcomes inquiries from potential OEMs and channel partners.

Description

The VSA-1225 Vibration Spectrum Analyzer is the Windows Mobile® Pocket PC version of Datastick's high-performance vibration analyzer / data collector.

The VSA-1225 hardware module attaches to a powerful HP iPAQ hx2400-series handheld computer and has a standard BNC connector and low-noise input that accommodates and powers almost any ICP®-type piezoelectric accelerometer. The VSA-1225 includes Datastick Spectrum and Datastick Review handheld software and Datastick Reporting System™ PC software.

The VSA-1225 records and displays vibration FFT spectra in acceleration, velocity, and displacement, as well as acceleration waveforms. It also records and displays overall vibration with color-coded ISO (or custom) alert levels. For a full description of the display capabilities, see the description of Datastick Spectrum and Datastick Review handheld software.

You Control the Power
The VSA-1225 hardware module contains its own rechargeable Li-Ion battery and advanced power management capabilities that put you in full control of sensor power — allowing you to determine the exact amount of power output to the sensor. You can easily go all day on a single charge.

An optional 4800 mA/h rechargeable external battery pack is available if you need more power, and it gives you the added benefit of powering BOTH the VSA-1225 module and the iPAQ hx2400-series handheld computer. For more information, please see the full description of the VSA-1225 module.

Extremely Low Noise
VSA-1225 does exceptionally well at finding low-level, low-frequency peaks. A typical noise floor at 4 Hz on a velocity spectrum made with an accelerometer is 0.0013 inches per second in the 2 g input range. If you need even lower noise, the VSA-1225 accepts ICP-type velocity sensors as well as accelerometers. For more information, please see the full description of the VSA-1225 module.

Sharp Color Display and 128 MB Internal Storage
The HP iPAQ hx2400-series Pocket PC has a bright, razor-sharp 240 x 320 pixel screen and 128 MB of internal memory.

Virtually Unlimited Storage Expansion
The VSA-1225 provides virtually unlimited, extremely secure storage capacity. In addition to the iPAQ hx2400-series Pocket PC's 128 MB of nonvolatile memory — which will hold up to 3000 spectra or waveforms — the VSA-1225 also lets you record data directly to a Secure Digital (SD) memory card, which you can insert into the handheld computer. The VSA-1225 supports SD cards of up to 2 GB capacity, and you can use as many cards as you like — you'll never run out of space.

At the end of the day, simply insert the SD card into a card reader on your PC to export the handheld data directly to your PC. With another couple of mouse-clicks, your data is imported into Datastick Reporting System software on the PC for analysis, trending, reporting, and archiving.

Compact size, high performance, and the simple operation of the Datastick Spectrum software make the VSA-1225 an excellent vibration analyzer / data collector for route-based inspections and demanding troubleshooting and field service applications.

Rugged Enclosure Option
For added protection from rough handling and the environment, the optional RC-4 Rugged Enclosure provides a splash-resistant, dustproof, impact-resistant shell that still allows access to the touch-screen controls for full operation.

DAS1264/DAS1294 Systems
DAS1264/DAS1294 Systems
The Datastick® DAS-1254 and DAS-1294 data acquisition modules bring a high level of reliability, convenience, and versatility to handheld instrumentation for test and measurement.

The DAS-1254 module has four single-ended analog inputs and the DAS-1294 has eight single-ended analog inputs. Each model provides one 16-bit digital counter, one TTL-level digital-switch input line, and two TTL-level digital-switch output lines.

Each module firmly attaches to any Palm™ Tungsten™ T, T2, T3, or C or Garmin iQue 3200 or iQue 3600 handheld. High-impedance inputs ensure compatibility with almost any active analog sensor. The new, integrated 20-pin connector features a harpoon latch for a more secure connection and is shielded for lower noise than the original DAS-1245.

Both models are powered by a pair of on-board AAA alkaline batteries or by an optional external power supply (see Accessories). Power management has been redesigned from the ground up to provide improved power consumption over the original DAS-1245.

The DAS-1254 and DAS-1294 include Datastick Connection Lite software for basic functionality right out of the box. Other software applications — Datastick Connection and Datastick Connection Plus — are sold separately and provide better performance, specialized features, and greater convenience.

The DAS-1254 and DAS-1294 data acquisition systems, hardware and software, are ideal for applications as varied as R&D, lab work, field testing, quality assurance, industrial control, environmental studies, and education, and they fit almost any budget.
